2019 Call for the International IPSR Joint Usage/Research Center Research Proposals

Invitation type

The Okayama University Institute of Plant Science and Resources (IPSR) functions as national “Joint Usage/Research Center” (JURC) focusing on plant stress science and bio-resources. Currently, the second 6-year term of JURC program promoted by the Ministry of Education, Sports, Culture, Science and Technology in Japan (MEXT) is carried on since April 2016, offering following international research support in 2019.

Purpose

In thriving globalization process, IPSR aims becoming an international “hub” in plant stress science and bio-resources that actively works for achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As undertaking, IPSR now invites foreign researchers to develop collaborative research with IPSR in the period of July, 2019 – March, 2020. Exchange of young scientists, including PhD students, is particularly encouraged. In principle, we will cover travel costs and living expenses up to 4 weeks in Japan, while suitable research environment and consumables will be provided by local IPSR host group(s) (see budget distribution below). As part of each project, we also encourage establishment of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate future research exchange and collaboration between partner institutions.

The current 2019 Call for Proposals is seeking for 3-6 new projects in the abovementioned areas of plant stress biology and bio-resources that can benefit from the use of state-of-art equipment at IPSR (see Common instruments and Networks), and from open research environment in the institute (see Groups).

Conditions

Each proposal includes cover for travel expenses during research stay(s) at IPSR campus in Kurashiki, Japan (up to JPY 400,000), and consumables used in this research (up to JPY 100,000 – awarded to host PI@IPSR). Depending on availability, accommodation can be arranged on campus in Kurashiki Guesthouse.

 Application procedures

Potential applicants are requested to (1) make direct contact with their intended principal host collaborator(s) at IPSR (Group list), and (2) discuss conditions, design and specific requirements for their experiments prior to (3) submitting their joint research application. Please note that name and consent of host PI at IPSR is required for acceptance of each proposal. Application Form should be sent by email to kyodo1247ATadm.okayama-u.ac.jp (replace AT with @ before sending). All applications must arrive before June-28 2019, 5:00 PM JST. Official language of proposals is English.

@IPSR “We believe that international collaboration is vital for our institute. In particular, we seek jointly developed ideas as pillars for promotion of SDGs that are indispensable for preventing global food and environmental crisis in the future”.
