Special collection
The materials held in the Institite have been collected since 1914, when the Institute was established. About 190,000 materials including rare and valuable books, are held in the Library of the Institute. Of these collections, Pfeffer's collection, Oohara's collection of Chinese books and Oohara's collection of Japanese agricultural books are especially the most important and precious materilas. These were collected by Magosaburo Oohara, who founded the Institute.
Pfeffer's collection 
11,730 volumes relating to botany collected by Dr. W. Pfeffer(1845-1920),
professor of Leipzig University. Pflanzenphysiologie (Pfeffer, W) etc.
Oohara kansekibunko=
Oohara's collection of Chinese books 
4,834 volumes relating to early Chinese agriculture
Oohara noushobunko=
Oohara's collection of Japanese agricultural books 
2,576 volumes relating to Japanese agriculture
and wild plants, issued during the Edo and Meiji era.
Kuwayama collection
8,800 volumes relating to pest insects collected by Dr. Kuwayama.
