  • Dezhi Wu from Zhejiang University joined our lab as a postdoc fellow.
  • We found a novel mechanism for regulating expression level of ALMT1 in Holcus lanatus. This work has been accepted by Plant Journal.
  • Dr. Zheng has been back to China and became a professor in Nanjing Agricultural University
  • Murakami-kun and Yamaki-kun were enrolled into doctoral and master course, respectively.
  • We found that OsHMA2 is involved in preferential delivery of Zn to developing tissues in rice. This works has been accepted by Plant Physiology.
  • IWPMB2013 was held in Kurashiki, March 26-31, 2013. Three hundreds and ten participants from 22 countries joined this meeting.
  • Kashino (Fujii)-san left the lab and gave a birth on March 1st.
  • Dr. Yamaji was awarded by Young Scientist Award from Japanese Society of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition. Congratulation!
  • We identified a transporter (OsYSL16) for Cu distribution in rice. This work has been published in Plant Cell.
  • We identified a silicon transporter (HvLsi6) in barley and found that this transporter is implicated in Si distribution with HvLsi2 at the node. For details, refer to Plant Physiology.

  • We found that AtSTAR1, a bacterial-type transporter, is involved in Al tolerance in Arabidopsis. This work has been published in Plant Physiology.
  • We identified a transporter for selenite in rice, which has been published in Plant Physiology
  • We have identified a transporter responsible for the inter-vascular transfer of silicon in rice node. This work has been accepted by Plant Cell.
  • We have identified an efflux Si transporter in barley and maize. This work has been published in Plant Cell.
  • A transporter responsible for methylated arsenic has been published in Plant Physiology.
  • Postdoc, Tijen, has left in July and Dr. Lu from China joined us from August. He will stay for six months and work on Si uptake in maize.

  • WESTBROOK,JARED W from the University of Florida joined us from June 24. He will work on interaction between Al and Si.
  • Ruth Sagardoy from CSIC, Spain, came to our lab on June 2. She will stay two months to learn isolation of vacuoles from sugar beet.

  • Prof. Ma was awarded by Japanese Society of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition Award for his research on eBeneficial effect and uptake mechanism of silicon in ricef. The ceremony and lecture will be given at Annual meeting of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition, which will be held in Tokyo on August 22-24, 2007.
  • Prof. Ma was awarded by Best Presentation Award at the first Transporter Symposium, which was held in Tokyo on Dec. 16-17, 2006.

  • Prof. Ma was awarded the JSPS Prize for 2005 and Japan Academy Medal for his Studies on Tolerance Mechanisms of Mineral Stresses in Higher Plants.
