2023 Call for the International IPSR Joint Usage/Research Center Research Proposals – overseas travel

The Okayama University Institute of Plant Science and Resources (IPSR) functions as national “Joint Usage/Research Center” (JURC) focusing on plant stress science and bio-resources. Currently, the fourth 6-year term of JURC program promoted by the Ministry of Education, Sports, Culture, Science and Technology in Japan (MEXT) is carried on since April 2022, offering following international research support in 2023.
Purpose
In thriving globalization process, IPSR aims becoming an international “hub” in plant stress science and bio-resources that actively works for achievements of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As undertaking, we now encourage IPSR staff to carry out/develop collaborative research with institutions abroad in FY2023. In particular, overseas travel of young IPSR staff members (Assistant and Associate Professors) is encouraged in this project. In principle, IPSR will cover travel costs and accommodation expenses abroad for a period of approximately two weeks to one month, while suitable research environment and consumables should be provided by the overseas host group(s) (see budget allocations below). As part of each project, we also encourage establishment of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate future research exchange and collaboration between partner institutions.
Duration
The current 2023 Call for Proposals is seeking for 3-6 new projects carried out by IPSR staff members abroad in the proposed period of July, 2023 – March, 2024.
Conditions
In principle, only IPSR staff is eligible for overseas travel support to any institute or university outside of Japan. Each proposal includes cover for travel costs and accommodation expenses during research stay abroad and consumables necessary for this research (up to JPY 500,000 – awarded to IPSR applicant in Japan for the purpose of research activity abroad).
Application procedures
IPSR applicants are requested to (1) make direct contact with their intended principal host collaborator(s) abroad, and (2) discuss conditions, design and specific requirements for their experiments prior to (3) submitting their joint-research application. Please note that name and consent of foreign host PI is required for acceptance of each proposal. Application Form should be sent by email to kyodo1247ATadm.okayama-u.ac.jp (replace AT with @ before sending). All applications must arrive before June-21 2023, 5:00 PM JST. Official language of proposals is English.
